Many military veterans re-entering civilian life prepare themselves by seeking college degrees. While there are military educational benefits, often they do not cover the full costs of tuition, books, fees, supplies and other educational expenses, as well as housing and living expenses.
The AAPG Foundation’s Deana and Paul Strunk Military Veterans Scholarship Program (MVSP) offers financial assistance to these courageous men and women who have served their country to help them transition into new professions in the geosciences.
Eligibility includes active U.S. military service members (including National Guard and Reserve) or veteran members separated from active military service with honorable discharge, who are entering or re-entering a post-secondary undergraduate program in the field of geoscience, full time or part time, at a four-year accredited college or university.
The MVSP awards range from $2,000 to $4,000 and may be used for educational expenses and costs of attendance.
The applications open for submission Feb. 15, and all materials must be submitted to AAPG Foundation no later than 11:59 p.m., (PDT) May 1, 2018. Scholarships are provided for the following academic year.
Applicants will need to provide documentation of their military service, transcripts and other documents. Please review Requirements and Guidelines for more detailed information.
The AAPG Foundation’s MVSP Committee reviews each application and selects recipients by June 1, 2018. Award announcements are made no later than June 15, 2018.
