Toyin Akinosho from Africa Oil+Gas Report is a featured speaker at the 2015 APPEX Regional Conference in November at Nice, France. The talk will highlight the rich pickings, those who are selling and those who are buying, as well as the incentives for buying exploration, near term and producing assets.

Toyin Akinosho, Speaker

Toyin Akinosho has over 27 years of oil industry experience, 20 of them spent as petroleum geologist with wide and increasingly diverse experience in Chevron, where he retired in 2008, as advisor of the company’s Joint Venture relations with the state hydrocarbon company NNPC. He has since then been founder, Publisher/CEO at Africa Oil+Gas Report, the continent’s leading monthly journal of the oil patch.

In Chevron he was involved in everything from subsurface mapping to competition intelligence. As Chairman of the Exploration Subcommittee of the Oil Producing Trade Section OPTS of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce, he led two industry wide efforts in Nigeria to find common ground for a framework on (1) Unitisation Of Straddle Fields and (2) New Template for Well Classification. He won, among others, Chevron Nigeria’s internal award for participation in gas reserves assessment for Brass LNG Project (2005) and Lease Renewal Effort (2007).

Mr. Akinosho has demonstrated himself to be a keen interpreter of issues and trends in the technology, fiscal and strategic aspects of the oil industry, specific to Africa, leading his magazine to establish rankings of top independent foreign and local producers and spotting the emergence of African indigenous independents. He has published extensively regional geology articles in technical hydrocarbon journals, especially the Oil and Gas Journal (OGJ) published by Pennwell Corporation and was a member of the inaugural board of the Offshore West Africa Conference, from which he retired earlier this year after his 20th anniversary. He is a recipient of the CNN Multichoice African Journalists Awards. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Ife in Nigeria.

Abstract: "Deal Flow in a Low Price Regime – What’s happening in the Portfolio Transfer Market in Africa?"

African acreages were some of the top prizes in the world in the two years before June 2014, when crude oil price began to descend from an all- time high. Some of the key players are now grappling with reining in their stocks from plunging, but there is also countercyclical investing. Isn’t it cheaper, now, to acquire exploration acreages?

The talk will highlight the rich pickings, those who are selling and those who are buying, as well as the incentives for buying exploration, near term and producing assets.
