Gerson J. S. Terra is a carbonate sedimentologist who received a bachelor’s degree in geology in 1974 from UFRGS, Brazil. He received a master’s in geology in 1990 from UFRJ, Brazil. He joined Petrobras in 1975 and his entire career has been spent in petroleum industry. He started to work with carbonate sedimentology in 1977. His experience in Petrobras includes assignments in sub-surface geology, sedimentology, exploration and reservoir geology. He was also manager of sedimentology and stratigraphy at Research Center, reservoir geology for Americas at Petrobras International, and geology and geophysics training at Petrobras University. Current research involves non marine carbonate rocks, cretaceous marine carbonate rocks from Brazilian continental margin, high resolution stratigraphy and field analogues for Brazilian Pre-Salt carbonates. He was retired from Petrobras in 2016 after 41 years as a Senior Geologist and Master Consultant at Petrobras University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
