Andreas Busch is professor of Earth Sciences at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland and a geologist/petrophysicist with broad experience in geochemistry and geomechanics. He is the head of the GeoEnergy research group and acting academic co-lead of the Lyell Centre, which operates at the interface between Earth and Marine Sciences.

His principal research focus is on a risk-based understanding of the coupled bio-thermo-hydro-chemical-mechanical processes related to GeoEnergy applications, including carbon capture and storage (CCS), geothermal energy, radioactive waste disposal or subsurface energy storage.

Prior to joining Heriot-Watt, he worked in the R&D department at Shell Global Solutions in the Netherlands after graduating at RWTH Aachen University in Germany with a doctorate. His multi-disciplinary research group consists of geoscientists and engineers and focuses on fundamental R&D as well as applied technology development with industry partners.
