This fall the DPA began a membership recruitment
campaign. The goal was to contact every non-DPA member
in the AAPG and make them aware of their eligibility and
the purpose of the DPA. Prospective members were sent
a letter by DPA Dan Tearpock, followed by both e-mail
and telephone contacts. Thus far we have received 28 new
applications, which represents less than 1% of the total
4008 eligible non-members contacted. In 2011 we will
renew efforts with additional mailings and e-mail contacts.
However, we need to make more personal contact with
prospective members. The results tracked to date indicate
that phone calls are more successful than e-mails in
encouraging applicants to apply. We also need more ideas on how to
contact eligible members and make them aware of the benefits of joining
the DPA.
